Homework Assignments

Policies

  1. Homework assignments must be submitted as a single PDF document. To ensure that homework assignments are readable, students are encouraged to prepare their homework electronically typed. Handwritten homeworks will be accepted only in print handwriting, scanned and submitted as a single PDF document.
It is student’s responsibility to ensure that a handwritten homework is legible. Illegible homeworks or those in cursive handwriting will not be graded—they will be discarded without notification.
  2. The homework shall be uploaded to your Sakai DropBox.
  3. The homework must be a single PDF document that does not require any modification to print; otherwise, the homework will not be accepted.
  4. Homeworks are due at the beginning of lecture on the due date.
Note that Sakai is programmed not to allow uploading documents after the deadline has passed. The solution is not to wait past the deadline and then ask to be treated as an exception. Rather, the solution is to plan ahead and submit your assignmet on time.
  5. Late homework gets a 0 grade.
One-time exception will be allowed for homeworks late up to 2 hours, which will receive reduced credit by 30%. The only other exceptions are for documented accidents, illnesses, or deaths in the family.

Contact the graders for questions about homework submission policies and issues regarding documet uploading or grades.

Collaboration / Academic Integrity

It is acceptable to discuss with others possible general approaches to problems. It is not acceptable to work together on a detailed solution, to copy a solution, or to give away a solution.
Such instances of academic dishonesty will result in the following:

  1. We will not consider unspecific and general complaints about copying of homework or exam solutions. Students are mature adults and should refrain from engaging in such dishonest activity.
We cannot just “do something.” To take action, we need specific information: who did what.
  2. In cases where we have reasonable evidence to suspect that students worked together on a detailed solution or copied solution (from any source, including online), the following shall apply:
    1. In case of copying from any source, if we are not able to distinguish the original solution from a copy, all the suspect students will be given zero (0) credit.
    2. In case of copying from each other, if we are able to distinguish the original solution and a copy, the student with the original solution will be given zero (0) credit, and the copier shall not be penalized. This is designed so to discourage students from giving away their solution.
    3. If a student claims not to have originated the solution but copied one and provides the name of the student from whom the solution was copied, the student with the original solution will be given zero credit, and the copier will be given the full credit (as graded).
Students are expected to familiarize themselves with and adhere to the University Policy on Academic Integrity.

Note: All homework assignments are in Wakerly.
