16:332:568 Software Engineering of Web Applications
Presentation #1 -- (date given here)
The purpose of this presentation is to introduce your project and the
goals that you plan to achieve. The most important thing is that you
clearly explain what is it that you're planning to achieve and how.
It's not expected that you'd have any detailed system designs at this
point.
1 Presentation Format
Each team is expected to prepare about 20 - 30 slides to present
the following:
- 1 - 3 slides general background about your project.
Mention existing systems, if any, that provide similar
functionality; note that some systems are listed here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Technical_analysis_software
also check: Stock
ratings from StockScouter
- 2 - 4 slides about the use case(s) that will be supported
by the system that you're planning to develop and its high-level
architecture (so called "block diagram")
- 2 - 4 slides about the Web service interface:
what will go in and what will come out of your planned Web service;
this means determining the signatures of methods (operations)
that will be possible to invoke on your Web service
(potential parameters that could be exchanged between the consumer
and the Web service are listed in the book in Section 1.5.5; select those that
you feel your team could realistically implement by the end of the
semester)
- 10 - 15 slides about the indicators (such as
trends and patterns) that can help in stock
investment decisions and that your team will track.
Although most of these parameters will belong to what is known as
technical
analysis, each team should consider some which belong to
fundamental
analysis. Also, although some degree of overlapping between
the teams is acceptable, different teams should consider at least
some unique parameters. (Of course, all projects should be
developed independently of each other.)
Explain the following:
- the importance of indicators (trends and patterns) observed in
the stock data collected from the Web
- how are these indicators calculated and what "raw" data go
into this calculation
- your rationale for selecting these indicators
- assuming that your system will eventually be able to recognize
these indicators, how will the observed indicators be
integrated into a single decision/recommendation (such as
"buy", "sell", "hold", etc.)
- 3 - 7 slides about the Web sources where you'll gather the
"raw" data that you'll use in calculating the above mentioned
indicators for stock-investment decisions
- 2 - 3 slides about your plan of work, indicating the milestones
and who'll do what
Note: Bring a printed
copy of your slides to the presentation. Preferably
print as handouts, 2 slides per page, double-sided.
2 Presentation Schedule
All presentations will be in our regular classroom during the
regular class period. Each group will have about 30 minutes for
their presentation (please allow the time for questions).
NOTE: If your group is not already scheduled for presentation, please
ASAP requesting a presentation slot.
